The Story
The Ulysse Nardin Freak X Collection is a revolutionary expression of avant-garde watchmaking, known for its boundary-pushing design and innovative mechanics. The collection redefines traditional horology with its unique “flying carrousel” movement, which replaces a conventional dial and hands with a rotating movement that also tells the time. Central to its allure is the absence of a crown, with time adjustments made by a bezel mechanism, staying true to the original Freak concept. The Freak X, while more accessible than its predecessors, retains the radical spirit with a streamlined design and simpler operation. The collection features a balance wheel made of silicium, showcasing Ulysse Nardin’s pioneering use of advanced materials. Housed in modern materials like titanium, carbon fiber, and rose gold, the Freak X models offer a blend of innovation, luxury, and contemporary style. With its daring design and unconventional approach, the Freak X is a true icon for adventurous watch enthusiasts.

About Ulysse Nardin

Chronometry has been a domain of the company since 1846, when Ulysse Nardin founded it in Le Locle, Switzerland. He developed precision navigational marine chronometers along with complex pocket watches, for an era of ocean exploration and international trade. The founder’s premature death in 1876 prompted his son to take the helm of the family business. Paul-David Nardin further built his reputation as a master of marine chronometers, winning competitions for horological excellence and commissions for his indispensable navigational tools. By 1900, he had made nine pocket chronometers fitted with tourbillon escapements to improve accuracy. Ulysse Nardin supplied over 50 navies, geodesic institutes and astronomical observatories, and its pocket chronometers were among the most coveted and prized by naval officers and merchant captains around the world. In 1975, the Neuchâtel Observatory released its last official publication regarding chronometer performance from 1846 to 1975. According to this report Ulysse Nardin obtained 747 first prizes for its deck watches, pocket chronometers and wristwatches, as well as many other accolades.

Today, from Le Locle and La Chaux-de-Fonds, the Manufacture of Freedom advances its haute horlogerie through four pillars: Marine, Diver, Blast and Freak.
